What is Lampante Oil?
Lampante olive oil is obtained by a mechanical process, but it is not suitable for human consumption. The word lampante comes from Lamp and this type of oil cannot be bottled and sold as is.
A lampante oil usually comes from the poorest quality olive fruits. It has a very high acid number up to 3.3% and an unacceptable sensory profile with multiple defects.
Lampante olive oil usually undergoes several refining steps to produce Refined Olive Oil.
Refined olive oil is mixed with virgin olive oil to produce the oil labeled as “Pure” Olive Oil.
Bottom line: the word “Pure” in the case of olive oil signifies lower-quality oil.
